Depression Tips Friday

Tip: Don’t skip meals.

Skipping meals and having a long interval between the times you have eaten in can cause irritation and fatigue. That is one of the last things you would want to happen to you considering the fatigue depression can already bring. Aim to eat what you can at your usual times. If you can’t bring yourself to eat something, perhaps try drinking a healthy drink like a smoothie instead.

Keep your chin up, be positive :).

Look up at the Sky

When we are depressed, we have a natural tendency to keep our heads low. Normally what happens is that our head will remain at position in which we are either constantly staring at the ground or a little below our head level.

But sometimes a simple action can help change your outlook. When we look down at the ground with a negative mindset, our outlook will tend to remain negative. Sometimes we have to just forget everything and look up at the sky. Doing a simple action like this can help change your outlook even by a little. This works especially well on sunny days.

A simple change in outlook can do wonders for our minds. This especially holds true for when you are in a negative mindset. So why not try looking up once in a while? 🙂

Depression Tips Friday

Tip: Avoid alcohol and drugs.

Alcohol and drugs by some are believed to act as mood enhancers. However the reality is that they can worsen depression. Substance abuse is also something that can cause depression in you rather than “cure” it. If you are already depressed, you run the risk of spiraling deeper into it. Alcohol and drug use can also deepen your feelings for suicide as the two things act based off of and amplify your feelings surrounding your present life.

Alcohol and drugs in the long run will do you no good. They will only be a detriment to you taking the steps towards recovery. If you find that you have a problem with alcohol and or drugs, it is recommended that you reach out for help.

Keep your chin up, be positive :).

Failure is NOT the End

Failure tends to get many of us down in the dumps. It is understandable as the act of failing incites several negative and at times weak feelings within us. Since childhood we are taught by society that failure is bad, since our young age we learn that failure is associated with bad feelings.

For some people failure signifies the end of something. While for others it is what it is. But what if you were told that failure is not the end? For some it maybe challenging their thinking while for others it may open their mind to a new perspective. Failure is never the end, it is only the beginning point to a lesson life will teach you.

When you were a child old enough to walk, whenever you fell down, what did you do? Did you just stay there on the ground and cry or did you pick yourself back up again? Physically falling down is different from mentally falling down, its just that one may require more courage than the other sometimes.

Being mentally affected by failure is understandable, it is a natural response but wallowing in it is bad for your health. Remember, mistakes and failures are life’s way of teaching you valuable lessons. The lessons that may seem pointless right now could become very valuable to you in the near future. Take what you will out of those lessons, I only hope it is something positive and educational.

Remember, whenever we fall down onto the ground, we pick ourselves up again. The same can be applied to your mental condition. If you fall down, do your utmost best to summon up all your courage and pick yourself up again.

No human is perfect, mistakes and failings are meant to be.

Accept. Learn. Move on.

Remember, keep your head up high :).

Depression Tips Friday

Tip: Start small and stay focused.

Doing too many things at once can feel overwhelming and overall hamper your progress. This is especially relevant to recovery. If you try and take on too much when recovering from depression, it can be end up having the opposite effect. Where as if you start small, take baby steps at first and make some progress. Not only will you recover a little, but also build some confidence.

After those baby steps, you can start gaining traction in your recovery as your confidence builds. Sooner or later, you may find that you are at a favorable point you never thought you would be at.

Keep your chin up, be positive :).
