Our mind as it develops is like a blank diary waiting to be filled with experiences and knowledge. But what we fill it with can make a huge impact. Fill it with negative content, your outlook overall will be negative. Fill it with positive content, and your outlook will be positive.
Does that mean there will be no middle ground? No, there will always be the middle ground. No person can truly ever have it one way or the other. It is also worth noting that not many people would tend to have a mind that would inherently lead them down a self-destructive path. But that does not mean that these tendencies cannot form later on in life.
Yet, regardless of what happens we can only fight to live on. Rage against the dying of the light. Perseverance is your one sole testament to your strength in those trying times. Your ability to fight against the negative thoughts, and stay afloat is what defines how strong you are. In order for one to survive, you have to fight for it, you must persevere.
Like how other creatures in nature must fight for their survival everyday, you must do so as well. This is especially applicable to those in a very dark place. Think of what is dear to you, the bonds you hold precious. Think of what can happen if you were to disappear, think of the better time you will miss out on. There will always be a better time waiting for you at the end, the light will glimmer brightly at the end of this dark pathway you may be walking right now.
Like how night always turns to day, your darkness will end at some point. There will always be better times waiting at the end of a struggle, relief. Take comfort in the fact that you’re still alive, and if you put your mind to it, you can be one of many individuals to help make a difference in the world. You’re you, unique. So persevere, fight against the dying of your light.
